This membership meeting will feature lectures by Dr. Reena Patel OD, FAAO and Dr. Ida Chung OD, MSHE, FCOVD, FAAO with lectures entitled "After the Pediatric Exam: Management Options for Strabismus" and “Evidence-Based Guidelines for Amblyopia Treatment”.

Lecture title: After the Pediatric Exam: Management Options for Strabismus

Dr. Reena Patel earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University and completed a residency in Pediatric Optometry at the State University of New York, State College of Optometry. After residency, Dr. Patel worked at various locations in New York, including the State University of New York, Helen Keller International, New York University and Dr. Andrea Thau and Associates private practice in Manhattan. Dr. Patel is currently an Associate Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry and has clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities in the Vision Therapy and Pediatric services. In addition, she is a clinical investigator with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group and conducts research in the areas of amblyopia, strabismus, binocular vision disorders and myopia control. Dr. Patel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Secretary of the California Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry, Co-Chair of the American Optometric Association’s Pediatric Eye Health and Vision Access Committee (formerly known as the InfantSEE and Children’s Vision Committee) and serves on the California Optometric Association’s Children Vision Committee.

Lecture title: Evidence-Based Guidelines for Amblyopia Treatment

Dr. Ida Chung is Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Optometry at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Optometry. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry and completed a residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She also holds a Master of Science in Higher Education from Drexel University.

Dr. Chung is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD). She is a past president of both the California Optometric Association and the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association.

With more than 30 years of experience in optometric education, Dr. Chung previously served on the faculty at SUNY College of Optometry, where she was Chief of Pediatrics and a vision consultant to community agencies.

Dr. Chung remains actively involved in professional advocacy through the California Optometric Association, with a focus on children’s vision and access to care. She is also an active investigator with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG).

A frequent invited lecturer at regional, national, and international conferences, Dr. Chung’s work focuses on advancing pediatric eye care, binocular vision, and evidence-based clinical practice.
