About ACCCOS
The Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society (ACCCOS) serves to advance and promote the profession of optometry alongside the California Optometric Association (COA) and American Optometric Association (AOA).
The Alameda County Society of Optometrists (ACSO) was founded in 1907 and later joined the Contra Costa County Optometric Society (CCCOS) to become ACCCOS. Notably, members of ACCCOS petitioned for the optometry curriculum at the University of California, Berkeley and campaigned for the founding of UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1923. In addition, Roy Brandreth, Lester Foumess, Harold McCartor, Henry Peters, Richard Peters, Marvin Poston, Stanley Poulsen, Bernhardt Thal, and Nathaniel West (8 of 9 were members of ACCCOS) founded California Vision Services (CVS) in 1955, a not-for-profit organization designated to increase the community’s access to quality eye care, now known as Vision Service Pan (VSP).
ACCCOS proudly serves the Bay Area by advocating to assure quality eye care to patients, performing school vision screenings, volunteering for health fairs/organizations, providing public education regarding eye health and vision.
