Dr. Angela Shahbazian, OD

 

Bio

Dr. Angela Shahbazian is currently the Primary Care/Community Health Resident at UC Berkeley.  Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Shahbazian worked for several years as an electronic music composer and manager of online media before obtaining her Doctorate of Optometry at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2016.  While in school, Dr. Shahbazian worked as a student instructor for several optometry courses and has recently been a guest lecturer for the graduate course on Ophthalmic Manifestations of Systemic Disease at Berkeley.

Bio

Dr. Joo received her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology. After working for a year in an optometry office, she continued on to pursue her Doctor of Optometry degree at U.C. Berkeley. During her training, she interned at the San Jose V.A. clinic as well as number community clinics, including Alameda County Medical Center, Highland Hospital, Marin County Clinics, and Castle Family Health Center serving Merced County. She has participated in a number of vision screenings in the east bay community and at Alameda/ Contra Costa County elementary schools.

After completing her degree, Dr. Joo began practicing part-time in the South Bay and teaching part-time at U.C. Berkeley's School of Optometry. Four years later, Dr. Joo relocated her family to the Tri-Valley, where she finds permanent residence and private practice. She continues to teach part-time at the School. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and serves on the Board for the Alameda and Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society.

Dr. Joo sees patients of all ages, including infants 12 months and older. She has a special interest in myopia control, and is well-versed in several modern methods to slow nearsightedness progression. She is CRT (ortho-k) certified and licensed to treat glaucoma.
